Must do activities in Phuket

Travel Phuket

From elephant rides to bungee jumping, Phuket has activities to please even the most jaded traveler. We've collected three of the most popular island activities and the best places to do them.

The Andaman Sea offers some of the world’s best snorkeling conditions: warm, clear water and abundant ocean life. Unlike scuba diving, which requires expensive equipment and certification, snorkeling is a relatively easy activity that takes only a pair of fins and a snorkel mask.

Visitors can enjoy snorkeling in Phuket year-round, though the sea is most placid during the dry season of November to April. Popular Phuket beaches include Kata, Karon, Patong and Surin. Each one has different qualities: Kata has a long bar of soft sand with a coral reef on its north end, while Karon Beach is shallow with good snorkeling to the south. Some locations offer off-shore snorkeling, while others require boat access.

Most Phuket snorkeling spots offer a variety of tours and equipment rentals. Some locations even offer power snorkeling, Snuba and other options that make the reef more accessible.

Surrounded by tropical islands and emerald bays, Phuket is a boater's paradise. The area has a number of options for touring by boat. Some companies offer motorboat tours for large groups, while others have private chartered boat tours.

Visitors looking for a unique way to experience Phuket by boat should check out John Gray's Seacanoes. Winner of multiple ecotourism awards, John Gray offers a number of options for touring Phuket. Hong by Sunlight lets visitors explore several sea caves before taking in the spectacular sunset. A Day in the Islands offers tropical kayaking in a number of remote locations.

More adventurous travelers may enjoy whitewater rafting in the Phang Nga Province or water skiing off one of Phuket's scenic beaches. Whichever option they choose, they'll find themselves surrounded by Phuket’s beautiful tropical scenery.

Seasoned golfers and beginners alike will love teeing off among Phuket's verdant forests and picturesque beaches. Phuket boasts dozens of golf courses of various sizes and difficulties. According to Frommer's Thailand, the best is Banyan Tree Club & Laguna at the Laguna Resort Complex on Bang Tao Bay. This 18-hole, par-71 championship course features numerous lagoons and coconut groves.

The Blue Canyon Country Club is a favorite of Tiger Woods, who called it "one of the best I have ever played on." The 18-hole championship course, located near the airport, has a number of trees and natural water hazards. Families will enjoy miniature golf at Phuket's Dino Park, an 18-hole course at the Marina Phuket Resort that features scale replicas of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures.
